The Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) connects Virginia’s veterans and their families to federal and state benefits, support, quality care, and recognition they have earned. The Virginia DVS will join us for a virtual live discussion about the services they provide for older adults. Get your questions answered and learn more about resources available.

Caring for You, Caring for Me is a 5-week in-person series for caregivers designed to help family caregivers develop skills that most benefit them, including building relationships with professional caregivers to increase cooperation, understanding and support. CFYCFM provides opportunities for learning ways to cope with the stressors of being a caregiver, accessing resources, discovering ways to work together with others to reduce frustrations and barriers in the caregiver role, sharing common concerns, and recognizing that caregivers are not alone. Caring for You, Caring for Me (CFYCFM) provides education and support to caregivers through a series of flexible learning modules, helping caregivers take better care of themselves, collaborate effectively with professional caregivers, and be the best advocate possible for their care recipient.
This five-part, interactive training course has been designed to help family caregivers develop skills that most benefit them, including building relationships with professional caregivers to increase cooperation, understanding and support. CFYCFM provides opportunities for learning ways to cope with the stressors of being a caregiver, accessing resources, discovering ways to work together with others to reduce frustrations and barriers in the caregiver role, sharing common concerns, and recognizing that caregivers are not alone.
This event is a partnership with IPMDC and Elderlink – Fairfax Area Agency on Aging.
CFYCFM is a free signature program of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving.
Seats are limited, as this is a small group workshop.
Please make a commitment to attend all 5 sessions to make the most of this series.

In this talk, titled "Often worrying about Falling?", we will explore why falls occur in Parkinson’s, how to monitor falls-related changes over time, and which warning signs to watch for. We will also share practical strategies to make daily life safer and build confidence in managing the fear of falling.

Senior Health and Fitness Fair

Alexandria’s Successful Aging Committee is pleased to announce its annual Senior Health and Fitness Fair. The morning will begin with a presentation by Virginia Hospital Center about ways that older adults can effectively manage stress. After this presentation, attendees can visit various breakout sessions that include healthy cooking demonstrations with the Chef of The View Alexandria by Goodwin Living; Tai Chi, fun exercises for older adults; and blood pressure and glaucoma screenings.
