Help For a Better Night's Sleep
Are you, or is someone you care for, having difficulty turning over in bed? At the World Parkinson Congress we met Nancy McGovern, creator of special sheets and sleepwear that help people with Parkinson's get a better night's sleep by improving mobility when they're in bed. It's a simple concept with a satin panel in the center of the bottom sheet for ease of movement that's surrounded by soft microfiber for traction. |
You can learn more about these sheets at comfortlinen.com. There's also a page of FAQs, and a blog with lots of tips and strategies based on Nancy's year's of experience as a Canadian physiotherapist.
You'll find more information about sleep on ipmdc.org, too.

How do I manage my dystonia? |
Dystonia is a frequent, often under-recognized part of Parkinson’s that is dynamic, coming and going through the day.
Join Parkinson’s specialists Josefa Domingos, PT, PhD and John Dean MA CCC-SLP for a practical session regarding dystonia in Parkinson — what to notice, what to write down, what to tell your clinician, and how families can help.
Reporting clearly, plus collaborative, adaptable exercise and therapy, makes the biggest difference over time. |

Live a simpler, safer, less cluttered life.

Getting older isn't easy. There are aches and pains, spotty memory sometimes, people that treat us like children, and more. Many of us imagine walking into the sunset with our partner, but that doesn't always go according to plan. Aging with someone else has it's benefits and concerns, solo aging has others. Most of us will, at sometime, be aging alone. This can be by choice, the need for someone to live in a care community, divorce, or death of our partner. We are going to talk about what you need to think about now and when preparing to solo age. |

Hike + History at the Manassas Battlefield Park
Easy Hike: 1.5 miles with 98 feet of elevation |
Manassas National Battlefield Park preserves the site of two major American Civil War battles: the First Battle of Bull Run, also called the Battle of First Manassas, and the Second Battle of Bull Run, or Battle of Second Manassas. This was where Confederate General Thomas J. Jackson acquired his nickname “Stonewall”. The park encompasses nearly 5,100 acres of land and includes more than 40 miles of hiking trails.
Easy Hike: Please note there is a gentle hill, unpaved terrain, and very little shade on this hike. Dogs are welcome on a leash. |
