Topic: What is the best way to exercise in the summer with Parkinson's? |
Staying active is one of the most valuable things you can do for your Parkinson’s, but the warmer months can make it harder to keep going. Heat, fatigue, and disrupted routines can all feel all the more pronounced with Parkinson's, and they can throw even a well-established exercise habit off track.
Join Josefa Domingos, PT, PhD, and John Dean, MA, CCC-SLP, for a supportive, practical session on keeping your routine going through the summer, with Parkinson's-specific tips to stay safe, cool, and consistent all season long. |

A Shaded Hike for Everyone
This hike is in the shade and near water so hopefully we'll have a nice breeze. Most importantly, it would be great if we could highlight how this park has gone above and beyond to make hiking accessible for everyone. They have not one, but 4 accessible trails for us to visit. Additionally, they even have All-Terrain Wheelchairs that our participants can reserve ahead of time. I included all of this in the link on our site and even included the link for people to read about (& reserve) the special wheelchairs. I hope this will truly be a hike for everybody.

Almost everyone has digital assets these days. Your iTunes, your Facebook account, etc. are all considered digital assets. They need to be protected so Dominique Bragg, esq. will be Maria’s guest. She will explain how to safeguard your property so that you, your family and your heirs have access and control – rather than some nameless company. |

This month's topic (postponed from July14):
Making technology work better for your care:
Zoom, phones, and other tools |
This practical session, featuring Parkinson's specialists Josefa M. Domingos, PT, PhD and John Dean, MA CCC-SLP, focuses on low-stress ways to make everyday technology work better for you.
It will begin with a focused look at Zoom, where so many programs now happen, including this one, covering setup, common fixes for microphone and camera issues, and useful features like transcripts and view options. It will also walk through accessibility settings on your phone or tablet that can make reading, navigating, and daily use noticeably easier.
A handful of other tools will be introduced, either built into your devices or freely available, that people with Parkinson's are using to support medication tracking, communication, and other parts of daily life.
The goal isn't to make you a tech expert. The goal is to leave with practical, usable tips that make your devices work for you, not against you.
Technology should make life easier — not more frustrating. |

Community Program |
In this webinar presentation, hosted by the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging, Dr. Jennifer Pauldurai, Cognitive and Behavioral Neurologist, Medical director with the Inova Brain Health and Memory Disorders Program, will discuss brain health. As we age, we are all at risk for dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. This isn't an inevitable fate, and there are proactive changes we can make to our health and lifestyle to keep our brains working well for longer. These brain healthy tactics can even help protect and lessen the distress in someone who already has a brain disease. In this webinar we explore a checklist of things we can work on today, to better our brains for tomorrow.

What Caregivers Need to know
Caring for a person living with dementia truly takes a village. As dementia progresses, it can affect memory, judgment, communication, and behavior, creating new challenges for both individuals and their caregivers. To reduce caregiver stress and prevent burnout, it is important to seek support from healthcare professionals and community resources. Planning ahead for home care, adult day programs, legal and financial matters, and long-term care needs can help families navigate the journey with greater confidence. Join our Brain Health and Memory Disorders Program workshop to learn valuable strategies, access resources, and connect with others facing the journey of dementia. You will meet other caregivers, learn from our aging experts, and develop the team you need for successful care for a loved one living with dementia.
